The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a Fire Weather Watch for dry thunderstorms and gusty outflow winds, which is in effect from Saturday afternoon through Saturday evening.

Affected Area

Fire Weather Zone 494 Henry Mountains, Fire Weather Zone 496 Color Country Mountains and Fire Weather Zone 498 Grand Staircase.

Thunderstorms

Widely scattered dry thunderstorms are forecast to develop across Zone 496 early Saturday afternoon, then spread into Zones 494 and 498 through the afternoon and early evening.

Outflow Winds

Gusty and erratic outflow winds in excess of 40 mpm can be expected near thunderstorms or areas of virga.

Impacts

Critical fire weather conditions are expected. Any new fire starts or existing fires may spread rapidly.

A Fire Weather Watch means that there is a potential for critical fire weather conditions. Continue to monitor for the latest forecasts and for possible Red Flag Warnings.

KICX Radar Down June 8th through June 20th

The KICX (Cedar City) radar will be down for scheduled maintenance between June 8th and June 20th. During this time, technicians will be replacing panels in the radome that have been damaged by lightning. Surrounding radars will continue to provide data during what is normally the driest time of the year.
