Impacts
Pets may succumb to the effects of extreme heat. The elderly, very young, sick, and people with heart conditions are most at risk in extreme heat.
What to Do
Drink plenty of fluids even if you don't feel thirsty, but avoid alcohol and caffeine. Stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on elderly and vulnerable relatives and neighbors.
Bring pets indoors or ensure that they have shade and cool water to drink.

Tips to Stay Safe
A Heat Advisory means dangerous heat conditions are happening now or soon. Take action before, during and after the heat to stay safe.
- Stay in air-conditioned spaces if possible. Find cooling centers or places with AC in your community that you can go to, like libraries or shopping malls.
- Stay hydrated and stock up on clean drinking water to get you through multiple days of heat.
- Reschedule outdoor activities for cooler times of the day, and take breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
- Cover windows with curtains or shades, or use window reflectors designed to reflect heat back outside.
- Check on friends, family, and neighbors, especially those who do not have air conditioning or spend much of their time alone.
Make sure you know the signs of heat-related illness and how to respond.

A Heat Advisory is in effect until 8 PM MDT /9 PM CDT/ this evening for the Eddy and Reeves County Plains, eastern Culberson County, Loving and Ward Counties, Chisos Basin, and the Davis, Guadalupe, Chinati, and Delaware Mountains. Although other locations are left out of the Advisory, please note that it will still be hot elsewhere. Be sure to stay hydrated and wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
