In effect from Friday 10/30 2:43 AM EDT – Friday 10/30 6:00 PM EDT

Issued by NWS Albany NY

The combination of dry fuels, gusty northwest winds between 25 and 35 mph, and minimum relative humidity values as low as 40 to 50 percent will contribute to an elevated risk of fire spread within much of the Hudson Valley, including Warren, Washington, Saratoga, Schenectady, Albany, Rensselaer, Greene, Columbia, Ulster, and Dutchess counties. The lowest relative humidity and strongest winds are expected this afternoon.

Use extra caution if handling any potential ignition sources such as machinery or matches, and ensure to properly extinguish or dispose of cigarette butts.

Bonfire Plans? Use Extra Caution!

Created by the NWS Albany WFO

Spooky Season is upon us! We know that may mean an increase in bonfire activity today. And while we aren't about to tell you not to cozy up fireside with your favorite people, we are going to tell you to use extra caution. The recent lack of rain, combined with low relative humidity and gusty winds, will increase the risk of fire spread today! So, make sure that you exercise extra caution when handling ANY potential ignition sources, not just your favorite fire starter.

Graphic on the left explains the causes of wildfires while the text on the right details the elevated risk of fire spread for the Hudson Valley, Catskills, Taconics, Berkshires, and Litchfield County today.
