Impacts
Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.
What to Do
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
Stay cool, stay hydrated, stay informed.

An Extreme Heat Warning means that extremely dangerous heat conditions are happening now or soon. You must take precautions to protect yourself and others from extreme heat.
- Stay inside in air conditioning if possible. If you don’t have air conditioning, go to a library, mall, or local cooling center.
- Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, and wear loose, light-colored clothing.
- Check on friends, family, and neighbors, especially those who do not have air conditioning or spend much of their time alone.
- Reschedule outdoor activities for a cooler day.
- If you must be outdoors, take longer and more frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning, and avoid the hottest parts of the day.

Severe Threat This Afternoon and Evening

Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop across the Sandhills into central and north-central Nebraska this afternoon and continue into the evening while moving southeast. A few storms could become severe, with damaging wind gusts in excess of 75 mph as the primary hazard. Large hail is also possible with the strongest storms. The greatest potential for severe weather is now through 9 PM CDT. If you have outdoor plans, remain weather aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Be prepared to move indoors quickly if a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is issued for your location.
