* Flash Flood Warning for... Southeastern Grundy County in north central Missouri... Northern Linn County in north central Missouri... North Central Livingston County in north central Missouri... Northern Macon County in north central Missouri... Southern Sullivan County in north central Missouri... Southern Adair County in northeastern Missouri...

* Until 200 AM CDT.

* At 1100 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... La Plata, Browning, Laredo, Purdin, Elmer, South Gifford and Winigan.

A Flash Flood Warning means that dangerous flooding is expected or already happening. Flash flooding can develop in hours or minutes, so take protective action now.  

  • If you are in a low-lying or flood prone area, move to higher ground immediately.  
  • Stay off bridges over fast-moving water, and away from storm drains, culverts, creeks and streams. 
  • Never walk, swim, or drive through flood waters or flooded roads. 
  • If you are trapped in a building, move to the highest floor and call 911. Go to the roof only if necessary. 
  • If your vehicle is trapped in rapidly moving water, stay inside. If water is rising inside the vehicle, move to the roof and signal for help.

- At 355 PM CDT, transportation department officials indicate closed roads due to high water. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. - Flooding impacts will continue, additional moderate to heavy rainfall is likely through tonight. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... At 20.0 feet, Farm fields along the river begin to flood. At 23.0 feet, Moderate flooding of farmland occurs.

- At 11:45 PM CDT Wednesday the stage was 15.1 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage tomorrow morning to a crest of 22.4 feet early tomorrow afternoon. Impacts

At 15.0 feet, Fields along the river begin to flood. At 19.0 feet, Farmland and secondary roads in the Chariton River floodplain are under water. At 20.0 feet, State Highway 129 is overtopped by flood waters 8 miles north of Salisbury.

- At 11:45 PM CDT Wednesday the stage was 9.7 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage early tomorrow afternoon to a crest of 20.3 feet Friday morning. It will then fall below flood stage Saturday evening. - Flood stage is 15.0 feet. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Impacts

Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.

Additional Details

- Thunderstorms are expected to develop rapidly this afternoon in much of northern Missouri and far northeastern Kansas. Storms will be slow-moving and capable of producing torrential rainfall. Localized rainfall totals in excess of 3 inches are possible, which may occur in as little as an hour or two. These rainfall totals and rainfall rates will likely lead to instances of flash flooding in the watch area. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
