The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in Missouri

Big Creek at Blairstown affecting Cass, Henry and Johnson Counties.

What

Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.

Where

Big Creek at Blairstown.

When

Until early Monday morning.

Impacts

At 20.0 feet, The west bank of the creek begins to flood. At 23.0 feet, Flooding occurs at the west approach to the N Highway bridge located 0.2 miles west of Blairstown. Flooding also occurs across B Highway near Big Creek which is several miles northwest of Blairstown.

Additional Details

- At 1:00 AM CDT Saturday the stage was 21.8 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 22.5 feet this morning. It will then fall below flood stage late tonight. - Flood stage is 20.0 feet. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

  • If your home is likely to flood, or if authorities tell you to evacuate, do so immediately and move to higher ground. 
  • Never walk, swim, or drive through flood waters or flooded roads. 
  • Stay away from areas where water levels can rise rapidly, like storm drains, culverts, creeks and streams. 
  • If you are trapped in a building, move to the highest floor and call 911. Go to the roof only if necessary. 
  • Do not go into any room where electrical cords or outlets are under water. Stay out of water that may have electricity in it!
  • If your vehicle is trapped in rapidly moving water, stay inside. If water is rising inside the vehicle, move to the roof and signal for help.

Portions of Kansas, including the following areas, Johnson KS, Leavenworth, Linn KS, Miami and Wyandotte and Missouri, including the following areas, Bates, Carroll, Cass, Chariton, Clay, Cooper, Henry, Howard, Jackson, Johnson MO, Lafayette, Pettis, Platte, Ray and Saline.

Impacts

Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.

Additional Details

- A strong cold front moving into the region this afternoon and evening will be the focus for widespread thunderstorm development. Storms will be capable of producing heavy rainfall in a short amount of time. With recent rains across the region, areas receiving the heaviest rainfall this afternoon and evening may see localized instances of flash flooding. Additionally, thunderstorms may train over the same areas during the evening, particularly near and south of U.S. Highway 50. Should this setup materialize, several instances of flash flooding and river flooding may occur. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Severe weather continues to be expected this afternoon and evening. All severe hazards (large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes) will be possible. However, large hail will be the primary threat during initial stages of storm development, with damaging winds becoming more likely as storms congeal into lines or clusters. Isolated tornadoes are also possible, especially if storms remain discrete. Stay weather aware today!
