The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in Michigan

Sturgeon River near Alston affecting Houghton and Baraga Counties.

Sturgeon River near Chassell affecting Houghton and Baraga Counties.

Michigamme River near Crystal Falls (Michigamme) affecting Iron County.

.Snow melt and increased reservoir releases will cause the river flows to become high. Expect minor flooding downstream from the dam.

  • If your home is likely to flood, or if authorities tell you to evacuate, do so immediately and move to higher ground. 
  • Never walk, swim, or drive through flood waters or flooded roads. 
  • Stay away from areas where water levels can rise rapidly, like storm drains, culverts, creeks and streams. 
  • If you are trapped in a building, move to the highest floor and call 911. Go to the roof only if necessary. 
  • Do not go into any room where electrical cords or outlets are under water. Stay out of water that may have electricity in it!
  • If your vehicle is trapped in rapidly moving water, stay inside. If water is rising inside the vehicle, move to the roof and signal for help.

At 8.0 feet, Homes and structures along the low lying areas and numerous roads become impacted by flood water. In Houghton County...Sturgeon River Road...Aho Road...and Rajala Road are impacted. In Baraga County...Sturgeon Road...Halonen Road and Usitalo Road are impacted. Along Froberg Road...Tahtinen Road... Irwin Road...Oliver Road...and Shirley Road are impacted.

Heavy rain may fall on a deep primed snowpack leading to the melt increasing. Flows in rivers may increase quickly and reach critical levels.

Portions of central Upper and western Upper Michigan, including the following areas, in central Upper Michigan, Baraga, Dickinson, Iron and Marquette. In western Upper Michigan, Keweenaw, Northern Houghton, Ontonagon and Southern Houghton.

Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

Thunderstorms ahead of a cold front will bring the potential for strong to severe winds to the western UP tonight. In addition to the wind and lightning hazards, rainfall totals of up to 1 inch will further increase flooding risk, especially for rivers and small streams.
