Gulf-facing beaches, including the Matagorda Peninsula, Brazoria County beaches, Galveston Island and the Bolivar Peninsula.

Impacts
Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.
What to Do
Swim near a lifeguard and away from rocks, jetties, and piers. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.

Rip currents may create dangerous swimming conditions in the area.
- If you enter the water, always have a flotation device with you and swim near a lifeguard.
- Keep small children in sight and within arm’s reach at all times.
- If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don’t swim against the current. If able, swim parallel to the shoreline.

High Risk of Rip Currents

High Risk of Rip Currents for Gulf-facing Beaches through 10 AM Friday. Numerous, strong, life-threatening rip currents will be possible. Rip Currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore! If you get caught, you may be able to escape by swimming in a direction following the shoreline, then at an angle toward the beach. Don’t swim against the current. If you feel you will be unable to reach shore, draw attention to yourself.
