Thursday: Rip Current Risk

3: High

Life-threatening rip currents are likely in the surf zone.

Determining Risk

We base this risk on local weather office rip current risk forecasts. These consider swell height/period, wind speed/direction, and other parameters.

Saturday: Lightning Risk

1: Limited

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms with dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning expected.

Determining Risk

We base this risk on local weather office thunderstorm forecasts.

Widespread thunderstorms with dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning expected.

Sunday: Coastal Flood Risk

2: Moderate

Moderate Coastal Flooding expected. 2 to 3 feet of inundation in shoreline and vulnerable areas. There is an elevated threat of property damage, with a risk to life if one places themselves in unnecessary danger. Several shoreline and vulnerable area homes and businesses will experience water inside. Several low-lying coastal and shoreline roads will be closed. A few cars may take on water or even be destroyed.

Determining Risk

We base this risk on local weather office water level forecasts.

Coastal Flood Risk
risk level name risk level description
1:Minor
Minor Coastal Flooding expected. 1 to 2 feet of inundation in shoreline and vulnerable areas. A few shoreline and vulnerable roadways and adjacent properties will experience shallow flooding. There is a low threat of property damage. There is no direct threat to life.
2:Moderate
Moderate Coastal Flooding expected. 2 to 3 feet of inundation in shoreline and vulnerable areas. There is an elevated threat of property damage, with a risk to life if one places themselves in unnecessary danger. Several shoreline and vulnerable area homes and businesses will experience water inside. Several low-lying coastal and shoreline roads will be closed. A few cars may take on water or even be destroyed.
3:Major
Major Coastal Flooding expected. 3 to 5+ feet of inundation in shoreline and vulnerable areas, with 1 to 3 feet of inundation in surrounding coastal communities that rarely experience coastal flooding. Evacuations will be necessary for shoreline and vulnerable coastal areas due to a life threatening flooding threat. Many coastal communities will experience damage, with some shoreline and flood prone homes and businesses being destroyed. Many cars will likely be submerged or washed away. Several sections of nearshore roads and escape routes will be impassable and a few could be washed out. Flood waters may extend well inland in low lying areas.

Saturday: Excessive Rainfall Risk

1: Limited

Isolated flash floods possible. Most flooding will be localized to areas that can experience rapid runoff with heavy rainfall.

Determining Risk

We base this risk on the excessive rainfall outlook from the Weather Prediction Center. You can learn more about excessive rainfall on their website.

Excessive Rainfall Risk
risk level name risk level description
1:Limited
Isolated flash floods possible. Most flooding will be localized to areas that can experience rapid runoff with heavy rainfall.
2:Elevated
Scattered flash floods possible, some potentially significant. Most vulnerable are urban areas, roads, small streams, and washes.
3:Significant
Numerous flash floods including some significant events likely. Many streams may flood, affecting nearby residential and urban areas.
4:Extreme
Widespread, severe flash floods expected. Events could occur in areas that don't normally flood. Lives and property in greater danger.

Thursday: Extreme Heat Risk

1: Limited

Heat exhaustion possible with prolonged exposure. Be aware to stay hydrated and seek air conditioned locations if needed. Maximum Apparent Temperature 90 to 94.

Determining Risk

We base this risk on local weather office temperature and/or heat index forecasts.
