Rises on the river are expected to begin Sunday night and last through Tuesday evening.
Additional Details
- At 11:00 AM MDT Friday the stage was 10.6 feet. - Bankfull stage is 13.5 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 10.6 feet this afternoon. It will then rise to 14.0 feet early Tuesday morning. Additional rises are possible thereafter. - Action stage is 13.5 feet. - Flood stage is 15.5 feet. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Impacts
At 10.0 feet, Portions of the riverwalk in Farmington are flooded. Local overbank flooding is occurring along the lower Animas River.

Impacts
At 9.5 feet, Minor overbank flooding of low spots along the river from the New Mexico-Colorado border down to the riverwalk in Farmington can be expected.

Portions of north central, northwest, and west central New Mexico, including the following areas, in north central New Mexico, Far Northwest Highlands, Jemez Mountains, Northwest Highlands and Tusas Mountains Including Chama. In northwest New Mexico, Chuska Mountains and Northwest Plateau. In west central New Mexico, San Francisco River Valley, Southwest Mountains, West Central Highlands, West Central Mountains and West Central Plateau.

From late tonight through Monday morning.
Impacts
Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded.
Additional Details
- Another round of widespread rainfall is expected Sunday into Monday with rainfall amounts generally between 1 and 2 inches near and west of the Continental Divide, except near 3 inches in favored upslope regions of the Tusas Mountains near Chama. This rainfall will occur over very saturated soils which will increase runoff. These are also areas that are still recovering from the last flood event. River rises are likely, but rises are not expected to be as high as the last flood event. Excessive Rainfall Outlook Sunday

There is a moderate risk of flooding across northwest NM on Sunday and a slide risk of flooding across much of the rest of western NM. Widespread rain amounts between one and 3 inches expected across western NM, highest amounts will occur in favored upslope areas such as the Tusas Mountains near Chama. Saturated soils from the previous flood event will allow for increased runoff. Even persistent light to moderate rainfall could cause flooding in arroyos, urban and poor drainage areas. River rises are expected. There is a moderate to high chance of river flooding, though rivers may not crest until Monday or Tuesday. Stay away from riverbanks!
