Impacts
Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Rises in small streams and normally dry arroyos. Dangerous flows over low-water crossings. Water over roadways. Overflowing poor drainage areas.
Additional Details
- At 455 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to slow moving thunderstorms. This will cause arroyo and small stream flooding. Up to 1.25 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Ruidoso and Fort Stanton. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
What to Do
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
Both localized and distant heavy rainfall will create sudden and dangerous flows in arroyos and over low water crossings.

At 444 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Fort Stanton, or 8 miles northeast of Ruidoso, moving southwest at 5 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph and half inch size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible.
Locations impacted include... Ruidoso, Ruidoso Downs, Capitan, Alto, Bonito Lake and Angus.
This includes Highway 380 between Mile Markers 83 and 84.
What to Do
Monitor the weather situation closely and be alert for threatening weather conditions.
Heavy rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
