Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is occurring.

Portions of Dickinson, Geary and Morris counties.

Until 900 AM CDT Thursday.

Impacts

Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems in urban areas.

Additional Details

- At 1209 AM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to earlier thunderstorms. Flooding is already occurring in the warned area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Junction City, Abilene, Grandview Plaza, Chapman, Solomon, Enterprise, White City, Woodbine, Latimer and Moonlight. - This includes Interstate 70 between mile markers 267 and 300. This will replace the flash flood warnings set to expire at 12:15 AM CDT.

What to Do

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.

Tips to Stay Safe

A Flood Warning means that dangerous flooding is expected or already happening. Take immediate action to protect yourself and your home. 

  • If your home is likely to flood, or if authorities tell you to evacuate, do so immediately and move to higher ground. 
  • Never walk, swim, or drive through flood waters or flooded roads. 
  • Stay away from areas where water levels can rise rapidly, like storm drains, culverts, creeks and streams. 
  • If you are trapped in a building, move to the highest floor and call 911. Go to the roof only if necessary. 
  • Do not go into any room where electrical cords or outlets are under water. Stay out of water that may have electricity in it!
  • If your vehicle is trapped in rapidly moving water, stay inside. If water is rising inside the vehicle, move to the roof and signal for help.

A cold front is expected to move southeast today and storms could form along the front. If storms develop, they may produce large hail, damaging winds and heavy rain. The front and severe risk are expected to pass southeast of the area by 5pm. Friday will bring a break from the stormy weather, but Saturday is likely (60-90% chance) to see showers and storms return. Cooler temperatures are expected through the weekend.
