Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Additional Details
- Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms are likely from this midday today through tonight. While rainfall amounts in some areas will be modest, there will be pockets of heavier rainfall that may lead to flash flooding, especially if multiple rounds fall in the same area. In addition, several more rounds of heavy rainfall are expected later this week, from Wednesday onward, and this watch might need to be extended or succeeded by more watches later.

Multi-Day Heavy Rain Threat This Week

While there will be times of dry conditions, the overall pattern will be a wet with periods of heavy rainfall this week. The locally heavy rainfall will lead to the potential for flash flooding starting tonight with additional potential for flash flooding in varying parts of Iowa in the coming days. As the water routes into area waterways, river levels will rise as will the potential for river flooding on some rivers by later this week.
