EXTREME HEAT WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM CDT MONDAY
What
A dangerous combination of oppressively humid and hot conditions with heat index values between 103 to 115 expected, with the highest values on Monday.
Where
Portions of northwest and west central Illinois, east central, northeast, and southeast Iowa, and northeast Missouri.
When
Until 10 PM CDT Monday.
Impacts
Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.
Additional Details
Little relief will occur tonight with low temperatures in the mid to upper 70s.
What to Do
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

- Stay inside in air conditioning if possible. If you don’t have air conditioning, go to a library, mall, or local cooling center.
- Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, and wear loose, light-colored clothing.
- Check on friends, family, and neighbors, especially those who do not have air conditioning or spend much of their time alone.
- Reschedule outdoor activities for a cooler day.
- If you must be outdoors, take longer and more frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning, and avoid the hottest parts of the day.
- Bring pets indoors if possible. If pets are left outside, make sure they have shade and plenty of cool water.
- Make sure you know the signs of heat-related illness and how to respond.

Isolated storms over northern Iowa are diving to the southeast towards the I-380 corridor and have the potential to turn severe given the unstable air mass. Primary hazards with these storms are gusty winds, frequent lightning, heavy downpours, and small hail.
