The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... Menard County in central Illinois... Cass County in west central Illinois... Mason County in central Illinois...

* Until 630 PM CDT.

* At 551 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Havana to 8 miles northwest of Meredosia, moving east at 60 mph.

HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect considerable tree damage. Wind damage is also likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings.

* Severe thunderstorms will be near... Beardstown, Havana, Bluff Springs, and Bath around 555 PM CDT. Chandlerville, Arenzville, and Kilbourne around 600 PM CDT. Virginia and Easton around 605 PM CDT.

Other locations in the path of these severe thunderstorms include Mason City, San Jose, Petersburg, Ashland, Greenview and Tallula.

At 616 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Eureka to near Delavan, moving east at 55 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

These severe storms will be near... Delavan around 620 PM CDT.

Other locations impacted by these severe thunderstorms include Norwood, Topeka, North Pekin, Chatauqua Park, Dillon, Peoria Heights, Powerton, Forest City, Groveland, and Kingston Mines.

This includes the following highways... Interstate 155 between mile markers 21 and 31. Interstate 474 between mile markers 0 and 14. Interstate 74 between mile markers 84 and 107.

At 19.5 feet, Access road to Anderson Lake north campground closed.

  • If your vehicle is trapped in rapidly moving water, stay inside. If water is rising inside the vehicle, move to the roof and signal for help.

A Tornado Watch is in effect until 9 PM tonight. Look for a thunderstorm activity to increase across west-central Illinois late this afternoon. Storms are expected to develop into a line of storms by early evening west of the Illinois River and push east/southeast through the evening hours. Several tornadoes are possible today in addition to large hail, damaging winds, and localized flooding. Stay weather aware!
