Water levels are expected to rise to 1 to 1.5 feet above the normal high tide line around the Kotzebue Sound and Chukchi Sea Coast around late Sunday, peaking overnight and diminishing rapidly on Monday morning due to gusty northwesterly winds between 25 & 35 mph behind the cold front that has moved through.

North Slope Late July Snow/Wind

A frontal system sweeps west to east across the North Slope Saturday night through Sunday. Gusty southwesterly winds shift northwesterly behind the front as it passes. Precipitation starts as rain, but shifts to snow Sunday morning as colder temperatures follow. Most of the snow is expected to accumulate in the Northern Brooks Range and southern Arctic Plain. Periods of freezing drizzle are possible following the front which may last through Sunday.
