The Flood Warning is extended for the following rivers in Wisconsin

Kickapoo River at Steuben affecting Crawford County.

Wisconsin River at Muscoda affecting Grant, Iowa and Richland Counties.

Black River Near Galesville affecting La Crosse and Trempealeau Counties.

Impacts

At 12.0 feet, Flooding mainly impacts wildlands and agricultural pasture land. The approaches on both ends of the County Road VV bridge over the Black River in Jackson County may begin to flood and the bridge gates may be closed.

- At 9:00 PM CDT Friday the stage was 12.6 feet. - Bankfull stage is 10.0 feet. - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 9:00 PM CDT Friday was 13.5 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to fall below flood stage tomorrow morning and continue falling to 6.5 feet Friday, April 24. - Flood stage is 12.0 feet. - Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of 12.6 feet on 03/25/1953. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

What to do

Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.
Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars through flooded areas.

Tips to stay safe

A Flood Warning means that dangerous flooding is expected or already happening. Take immediate action to protect yourself and your home. 

  • If your home is likely to flood, or if authorities tell you to evacuate, do so immediately and move to higher ground. 
  • Never walk, swim, or drive through flood waters or flooded roads. 
  • Stay away from areas where water levels can rise rapidly, like storm drains, culverts, creeks and streams. 
  • If you are trapped in a building, move to the highest floor and call 911. Go to the roof only if necessary. 
  • Do not go into any room where electrical cords or outlets are under water. Stay out of water that may have electricity in it!
  • If your vehicle is trapped in rapidly moving water, stay inside. If water is rising inside the vehicle, move to the roof and signal for help.

Colder weather arrives for the weekend. Highs will remain confined in the 40s and lows below freezing starting Saturday morning through Monday morning. Warmer weather returns for next week. The pattern dries out after today with the next chance of rain not coming until late next week.
