Short term

TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT...High pressure to the southwest and the trough up north will continue to hold a steep pressure gradient over the territory tonight through the weekend. This pressure gradient will generate near gale trades tonight and persist through Saturday night. The trough will push slightly north on Friday through Saturday night, decreasing showers to scattered across the territory.

Long term

SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY...The trough will draw near the territory and showers will increase to numerous on Sunday. With the high pressure displace southeast of the territory, trades will shift east on Sunday. A low will develop near Fiji on Sunday and this will drag moisture southwest. As the pressure gradient weakens, winds will gradually diminish on Monday to gentle northeast flow on Wednesday. The southwest movement of moisture will increase showers across the islands through Tuesday night. Showers will decrease over the islands on Wednesday as the col brings light north winds over the territory. However, the associated trough to the southwest will again move northeast and bring trades over the islands on Thursday night.

Marine

PacIOOS buoy near Aunuu shows seas of 15 feet and higher in the last couple of hours. Strong swells from the south will continue to impact the territory through tonight. The swells are expected to pass and subside on Friday morning. However, with near gale trades remaining across the islands, seas will slightly subside 9 to 12 feet on Friday and persist through Saturday. With the prolong period of near gale trades over the islands, seas will again build 12 to 15 feet on Saturday night and persist through Sunday night. With winds gradually diminishing on Monday, seas will also subside 9 to 12 feet through Tuesday. Furthermore, seas will continue to subside 7 to 9 feet on Tuesday night before subside 5 to 7 feet on Thursday.
