DISCUSSION

Issued at 148 AM CDT Mon Apr 20 2026

High pressure sliding east of the region will keep conditions dry and shift winds to the south late today. After near to a little below normal temperatures today in the middle 60s to lower 70s, readings Tuesday through the end of the week will be 5 to 10 degrees above normal. The warmest day will be Thursday as south winds increase out ahead of an approaching cold front, with highs reaching around 80 degrees.

Models take the cold front through the PAH forecast area Friday night, with numerous showers and scattered thunderstorms along and ahead of the front. The model blend produces 70-85% chances Friday through Friday night. Although best potential for some severe storms is currently to our southwest, timing of the front and heating ahead of it will play a part in the strength of storms in southwest portions of our region late Friday into Friday evening.

Behind the front, showers chances drop to under 50% on Saturday, and under 40% Sunday, with just isolated thunderstorms possible as a couple of weak upper level waves follow the cold front. Rainfall totals Friday through Sunday range from three quarters to around 1 inch across southwest Indiana, to an inch and a quarter to an inch and three quarters in southwest Illinois, southwest Missouri and most of west Kentucky. Temperatures over the weekend will drop back closer to seasonable readings.
